Product Overview: CrossOver Linux 8.x – Running Windows Applications in Ubuntu…
As compared to any other operating system, Windows has a large application base, which no doubt makes Windows as the most widely used and accepted operating system. If you are Ubuntu user, you can also run the Windows applications in Ubuntu without having to install Windows.
There are two applications that you can use to install and run Windows applications in Ubuntu. These are:
- Wine
- CrossOver Linux
Both these applications have one thing in common: they will allow you to run Windows applications in Ubuntu. In this post, I am going to mainly focus on CrossOver Linux, which is available in Standard and Professional editions and both cost money. CrossOver Linux provides the flexibility of installing from a default set of supported applications or allowing you to choose any other unsupported applications. And then there are many more of such supported applications. The graphic shown below displays the partial list:
If the application that you want to install is not listed in the supported application list, you can still install it by selecting the Install unsupported software option. The graphic below has this option highlighted:
When you click on Next, simply provide the path of the application executable and then that’s it. The selected application is mounted and executed. That is a simple process.
